These days a pre pregnancy consultation is recommended as you may need some blood tests, a pap smear or vaccinations before you become pregnant. It is also recommended you start a pregnancy vitamin at least a month before you fall pregnant.

It is best if you are as healthy as possible before you fall pregnant. Stopping smoking, cutting down or ideally ceasing alcohol and eating a healthy diet are simple measures you (and your partner!) should consider. Starting some regular exercise will mean your body handles the stresses of pregnancy more easily.

If you are taking regular medications you should check with your doctor if these are safe to continue or need to be changed.
