Menopause can occur anytime from the age of 40-60. Although universally feared, only 50% of women require hormone replacement therapy to help them through. Even for those women, this is usually only for a few years.

These days there are effective non-hormonal treatments such as low dose anti-depressant therapy which can relieve symptoms greatly.

There are a wide range of ‘natural’ therapies available, many of which have limited evidence for their safety and/or effectiveness.

Issues with periods, relationships and sex are common. For more information visit the Australian Menopause Society website.

At Cairns Doctors, our doctors are experienced in helping women navigate through the confusing range of options available and can assist you in finding the best solution for you.
