Today is FND awareness day!
Functional Neurological Disorder (previously called “conversion disorder”) is a debilitating problem affecting people’s nerves or their brain which doesn’t show up in scans or blood tests and its treatment is complex. There are lots of things that can be done to help, but it often takes a team of people to do so. Remember that your GP is your first “port of call” for any and all medical problems, and our duty is to involve specialists and/or other allied health practitioners as well, where needed.
Our visiting psychologists, Anneke Bayer and Katie Richards, can help people with this too. As ever, see your GP first, and you may be entitled to a referral on Medicare to subsidise the costs of psychology.
