The staff at Cairns Doctors will be hard at work this weekend as they set up their brand new practice.
Located at the newly-constructed Barr Street Markets, 532 Mulgrave Rd. Earlville, the business’ new premises will open its doors this coming Monday, July 10.
Staff closed the doors on the medical centre’s original location on Thursday and began packing boxes ahead of this weekend’s move.
Business medical manager Adam Maher says the new location will provide further advantages for patients.
“The benefits of the new site include having a pharmacy right next door and undercover parking, which is a great bonus in Cairns,” he says.
“Having a larger site will mean we’ll also be able to add more services that the community needs and expand on what is already on offer. The only thing that changes with the move will the address.”
Adam has been managing medical centres for about seven years and has more than 10 years of health industry experience.
He took over the managing role at Cairns Doctors at the start of the year, following a change of ownership.
As a result, Cairns Doctors director and founder Dr Heather McNamee is now enjoying reduced stress.
“She’s looking forward to focussing solely on her patients without the pressure of running a business. That’s now my responsibility,” Adam says.
He says Dr McNamee has done “an incredible job” in the past.
“Firstly, in establishing the business and opening up the clinic and, secondly, doing a lot for the community in ways that have not been acknowledged enough – looking after real high-need, at-risk patients.”
He says he’s thrilled to work with someone equally as passionate as him, along with the other amazing doctors and staff too.
“The team from Cairns Doctors are all moving forward together, Dr Kay Haig, Dr Nisha Manoheran, Dr Matthew Warburton and Mrs Karen Warburton will be joining Dr McNamee at the new site, supported by the nursing team Marg and Nikki.
“We would love to work with more doctors who are interested in the style of practice we’re running, Heather’s patient centricity really aligns with my ideologies as a business medical manager,” he says.
“It’s all about the patient – we don’t want doctors to be paid well without patients having quality outcomes as well. That’s the mantra and my focus as a businessman.”
First established in 2013, Cairns Doctors is committed to ensuring access to specialised and general care for the Cairns community and surrounds.
